FIRE IN MY CHEST

(Old Lost John / Thunberg)
FIRE IN MY CHEST

Somebody's burning something
I can smell the smoke from here
Fallen leaves I suppose
Like they do this time of year
I turn and walk the other way
The sun is sinking in the west
Like any other day
And there's a fire in my chest

In a dream last night
My ghost was in a corner of your room
Somewhere just below the ceiling
Looking down on you
I wasn't supposed to be there
Like some uninvited guest
But as I hung there I could feel
There was a fire in my chest

I tried to call out to you
But I couldn't make a sound
Yet just before I woke up
I can swear you turned around
And until the morning came
I couldn't get any rest
Twisting in my bed
With a fire in my chest

The one thing I remember
As I was caught up in the smoke
Thinking to myself
This must be some kind of joke
I swore I wouldn't fail you
And with a single quest
I fought as hard as I could
With a fire in my chest
